Inglis Drever became only the fourth horse to win the Stayers crown twice after his victory in 2005. Off the bridle in customary fashion early on, the slow early pace was against Inglis Drever and his supporters must have had some anxious moments.

However, the winner's stamina kicked in turning for home and he swept into the lead and held on well from Mighty Man. Favourite Black Jack Ketchum was a faller at the second hurdle.
