Arkle Form - Key Race

The Independent Novice Chase ran at the Cheltenham Open in November is a key form race for the Arkle. Recent winners of this race which have run in the following years Arkle have a record of 1F1F2.

Fair Along won the race before being an unlucky runner up in last years Arkle. The race was won by 2003 Arkle winner Azertyuiop and 2005 Arkle winner Contraband. The 2003 winner of the race was ThisThatandTother who fell at the second fence when favourite for the Arkle and the 2005 winner Accordion Etoile was going well in the 2006 Arkle when falling.

Winner of the 2007 Independent Novice Chase was Moon Over Miami.

2007 Arkle

An impressive victory by My Way De Solzen in 2007 with several hard luck stories including runner up Fair Along.



Fair Along was bidding to keep the impressive stats for 5 year old Arkle runners going. After being bumped early on and impeded at the second last, Fair Along ran on strongly up the hill to take second.

The first two home had won a Grade 2 Novice Chase at Cheltenham earlier in the season and had finished no worse than 2nd in their chase runs.

Third placed Jack The Giant had won all three chases going into the arkle including a Grade 2 and was another 5 year old who ran well in the race.

Dont Push It and Twist Magic (5 years old) may well have fought out the finish but for falling at the second last. Each of them had run no worse than second in their chase starts with Twist Magic having won a grade 2 and Dont Push It had won a chase worth £12k.

2008 Arkle Tips

Moon Over Miami has won the key form race and has excuses for finishing out of the front two in completed chases (broke a blood vessel in one race). With odds of 16/1 at the time of writing he looks a great value bet to win the 2008 Arkle.

The stats say we should also pay close attention to five year olds. The speed which the younger horses possess combined with their valuable 5lb weight for age shows why they have won four of the last 9 runnings from not many entries.

Kruguyrova and Jy Vole look like the two 5 year olds most likely to make the line up. They both have won a grade 2 or 1 novice chase and finished no worse than 2nd in each of their chases making them good ante post bets for the 2008 Arkle.
