Triumph Hurdle

The JCB Triumph Hurdle is for four year old novices only and raced over 2m1f of the New Course.

A large field and a very fast pace will test these youngsters. Some experience over hurdles and a proven ability to win, preferably in a good class race, is what we are looking for.

All of the last ten winners started at a price of 20/1 or less

Nine out of the last ten winners had their last prep race in February

Nine out of the last ten winners finished first past the post last time out

Nine out of the last ten winners had won at least fifty percent of their hurdle races

Nine out of the last ten winners were by a Group one winning sire

A high percentage of winners were rated 80+ on the flat and had placed form over at least 1mile 2furlongs

Triumph Hurdle Analysis

The introduction of the Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle has been a boon for Triumph Hurdle punters as the prices of the four winners of the Triumph since that race was introduced into the Festival have been 7/2, 11/2, 5/1 and 11/2 with no winner coming outside the first four in the betting.

In 2009 the first three horses in the betting filled three of the first four places home and in 2008 the first and second favourites filled the top two places.

Triumph Hurdle Tips

Do keep an eye on your selection's stamina credentials from the flat with all of the last four winners having placed form at 1mile 4 furlongs or above on the level.

Alan King has been the trainer to follow in the Triumph with two wins, two seconds and a third in the last five years but with his Mille Chief a late withdrawl due to injury we will have to look elsewhere for our selection.

Paul Nicholls won this race in 2008 with Celestial Halo and looks to have a good chance again this year with Advisor.
A decent handicapper on the flat with Michael Bell he has taken the move to hurdling very well, remaining unbeaten with victories at Newbury and Ascot and Nicholls has stated in various stable tours that he has been impressed with the grey gelding and thinks he has a live chance in this race.
