Ryanair Chase
The Ryanair Chase made its debut at the Cheltenham festival in 2005 and is registered as The Festival Trophy.Run over 2m5f this grade one chase is seen as an easier alternative to the Gold Cup and has attracted quality fields in its first four runnings.
Thisthatandtother won the first Festival Trophy aged 10 and the runner up that year, Fondmort, returned at 10 years old to win in 2006. However, in 2007 the much younger six year old Taranis triumphed in a close finish from Our Vic. In 2008 an older horse was victorious when 2007's runner up 10 year old Old Vic went one better to see off Irish raider Mossbank.
