The Irish have won this race three times in the last ten years and always send over a number of candidates of which any number seem to be gambled on.


Winners tend to come from all ends of the price spectrum with one favourite obliging and winning prices ranging up as high as 50/1.

Perhaps the years of this race going to horses who have been tenderly ridden in the qualifiers are now behind us as the last three years have seen Oscar Park finish runner-up in the qualifier at Newbury and Ballydub and Kayf Aramis win their respective qualifiers?

So, it may be that getting a horse to peak at the right time is now the key to this race rather than a long drawn out plan to hide a handicap mark?

In this case we should monitor the qualifiers at Newbury, Warwick and Cheltenham closely and look for a top four finish from a horse that has the capacity to keep on improving.
