The top two stats here look very significant as any horse with a much higher rating than 135 could well be vulnerable to a horse whose true handicap mark has not yet been fully exposed.


The offical ratings band of 123-135 of the five winners is further compressed over the last four years where all four winners have been rated in a 2lb window between 133-135. This very tight rating band may even itself out over the next few years but horses in this rating category will definitely be worth considering when we get the runners for the race.


The unexposed nature of winners of this race is further emphasised by the fact that all five winners had only one once over fences thus leaving plenty of scope for further improvement.

Jonjo O'Neill has had the runner up in this race in two of the last three years and as the yard has close associations with the sponsor of this race he will be very keen to go one better in 2010.
