Grand Annual Chase

A handicap chase over 2m 110 yards which has been good for punters in recent years.

Grand Annual Chase Trends

All of the last ten winners carried 10st 11lbs or less

All of the last ten winners had no more than twelve races over fences

Nine of the last ten winners were aged nine or under

Eight of the last ten winners started at 8/1 or lower

Eight of the last ten winners were rated between 130-134

Grand Annual Chase Analysis

Typical of a handicap race at the festival, we are looking for a low weighted runner towards the head of the market. Runners rated 130-134 have had a remarkable run in this race winning eight of the last ten renewals.

Novices have a good record in this race - last year's winner, Oh Crick, became the fourth novice this decade to take the race.

Grand Annual Chase Analysis 2010

The final race of the Festival is no longer the County Hurdle but will still be very tricky to work out with 20+ 2 mile chasers to choose from.

Since the race was named after his father in 2005 Nicky Henderson has had a 1st, a 2nd, two 3rds and a 4th! This will always be a race that the Henderson stable will focus on and their runners will always require close attention when making your bets.

Grand Annual Chase Tips 2010

There is a possibility that when a trainer has an association with a particular race (such as Nicky Henderson here) that his horses can become a false price. After our original Henderson choice First Point was ruled out of this race none of the other Seven Barrows runners make much appeal so of the horses running here Beggars Cap catches the eye.
Just outside the 130-134 official rating band which has so often been successful in this race (he is on 135) Beggars Cap ran in this race last year and was making eyecatching progress before coming down at the fifth last fence.
Beggars Cap has gone up the weights a fair bit since then courtesy of a good win at Aintree but this horse starts to come to himself at this time of year and this race does not look as competitive as usual.
Ferdy Murphy has had one winner already this week as well as Gallant Nuit and Kalahari King placing so the stable are in decent nick and at odds of around 16/1 he is the bet.
