With only one winner so far it is too early to draw too many conclusions but with four of the first eight home running from the lowest official rating to make the race (128) this could be another race that favours horses toward the bottow of the weights.Martin Pipe Conditionals Hurdle Analysis
One thing is certain - David Pipe is going to be trying his damndest to win this race named in honour of his father and ended up with SEVEN runners last year but the stable's massed ranks could fare no better than third when Big Eared Fran came home the best of the Pipe team.It could be that the Pipe connection will mean that his horses are going to be overbet in this race and not represent their true price, so it could make sense to look elsewhere?
Philip Hobbs has a great record in the handicap hurdles at Cheltenham with wins in the Coral Cup and County Hurdle in recent years and he had two representatives in the top eight home in this race in 2009.
The Hobbs stable regularly find excellent young jockeys and winning a race such as this would be a suitable reward for all their hard work.
Representatives from the Hobbs yard will definitely be worth considering in this race in 2010.
Martin Pipe Conditionals Hurdle Analysis
At this stage there are still a huge number of entries from our highlighted stables of Pipe and Hobbs making it very difficult to whittle down what might be the main fancy, although Pipe's Ashkazar is currently being well backed.
It might instead pay to focus on a runner from the Venetia Williams yard, a stable that has won both of the other staying handicap hurdles at the Festival (Idole First 2005 Coral Cup and Kayf Aramis 2009 Pertemps).
The stable has a number of representatives left in at this stage but the one that appeals is Aachen.
This horse was well fancied for last year's County Hurdle and, by the looks of his recent comeback run here at Cheltenham, he needs to step up in trip.
With Aachen holding no other Festival entries and looking certain to make the race, he could well end up a fair bit shorter than his current advertised price of 25/1.
