Champion Bumper Analysis
Irish trainers have dominated this race since its inception in 1992 but that is perhaps not surprising given the history that surrounds bumpers in Ireland compared to their fairly lukewarm acceptance in this country.Only three British trainers have managed to win this race and it is a brave man who plumps for a non-Irish selection.
The stat that states that horses do well who have won bumpers with fourteen runners or more is worth noting as often small field bumpers will be run at a very slow early pace and bear no resemblance to the test those horse will face at Cheltenham.
Champion Bumper Tips
Willie Mullins' record in this race is now well documented and it could be that his horses are overbacked because of his record here and, as with the hugely impressive Dunguib last year, it may pay to focus on one of his countrymen instead when making your selection.
Perhaps though the Bumper could stay in the Mullins family with Wille's brother Tom who trains Tavern Times
This five-year-old son of Presenting ticks all the right boxes for this race and showed a good turn of foot on good ground when winning his only start at Fairyhouse in October.
