Rewards4Racing Novices Chase Analysis

We will continue to use the old Jewson Chase trends but we should remain aware that the new race is raced on a different part of the Cheltenham course and as such is over a slightly shorter distance of two and a half miles as opposed to 2m 5f.

The handicap ceiling has also moved down to a maximum of an official rating of 140 (although Hunt Ball managed to exploit the Rules in 2012 to run off 142!) so be aware of that when making your selections as up to 2010 there was no upper ceiling and this may change the viability of the existing trends.

Rewards4Racing Novices Chase Preview

This race will always have a very tight look to it now that the race conditions have changed and the whole field are likely to be very closely matched. One of the old trends where we were looking for a horse with less than eleven stone has definitely gone out the window as every horse in the last two years has carried more than that amount.

It is worth noting that the horse with the highest rating has won this race for the last two years.

Rewards4Racing Novices Tips

It’s very possible that the handicapper has been far too lenient raising ERICHT just five pounds following his latest win at Musselburgh and his connections must have raised a sigh of relief when it was confirmed he had made it in to this race by the skin of his teeth.

Another one pound would have meant he was ineligible to run here (the top rating allowed is 140) and listening to Nicky Henderson after ERICHT’s win at Musselburgh he sounded as if he thought his horse had won too well to make it into this race.

Musselburgh form tends not to have a massive influence on Cheltenham Festival form but the manner of ERICHT’s win was extremely impressive and he looks a horse very much on the upgrade.

Henderson has a good record in this race, winning with Radjhani Express from top weight last year and looks to have an excellent chance of winning the Rewards4Racing Novices Handicap once again with ERICHT.
