Long Run obviously still had plenty of growing up to do this season and whilst some have questioned his early performances it very much appears as if the horse is developing into one that will suited by the extra test of stamina that is provided at Cheltenham and he remains the horse to beat but doesn't present much in the way of value.

There are big question marks against his main rivals with the incredible Kauto Star out to break even more records by winning the Gold Cup at 12yo - the last horse to win at that age was What A Myth in 1969.

Burton Port made a very pleasing comeback when running Long Run to half a length in the Denman Chase but he was in receipt of ten pounds that day and it is difficult to see him turning the tables on the Gold Cup favourite even given his likely improvement for his first run for over fourteen months.

Long Run is the most likely winner but his current price of 9/4 (correct at time of writing) reflects his chance and those punters fancying an each-way punt instead should look towards Synchronised.

Our original selection Quel Esprit has been withdrawn at the last minute so we will turn to Synchronised for our tip.

The ground at Cheltenham looked to be cutting up a bit yesterday and that will be to the favour of Jonjo O'Neill's gelding and with the stable already amongst the winners he could provide a minor shock and upset Long Run and Kauto Star
