Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle Analysis

This looks like a race where some good trends are developing and applying the five stats from our list above will surely narrow down the prospective winners.

There will be a tendency for trainers to run horses here who are seen as having a big future over fences but that does not necessarily mean they will have what is required to be competitive in this race. In other words, the horses with a realistic chance are few given the size of the field. The market then provides quite an accurate guide with only one occasion where the race fell to an outsider and in that case there had been a major change in the going during the day.

In short, we are looking for a well fancied six or seven-year-old with good form in high class company.

Albert Bartlett Preview

Although only nine-years-old this race has already produced horses who have gone on to be at least as good over fences with the likes of Gone To Lunch and Siegemaster doing well and 2007 winner Wichita Lineman returning in 2009 to win the William Hill HCap Chase. 2009 winner Weapons Amnesty and 2011 victor Bobs Worth both went on to RSA glory the following year and, of course, Bobs Worth then went on to win the Gold Cup last year.

Paul Nicholls has hit the crossbar in this event in recent years with placings for Najaf, Pride Of Dulcote and Thisthatandtother.

Willie Mulins has also come close to victory here with Black Harry, The Midnight Club and Boston Bob so his representatives should also be respected.

The above two trainers look sure to supply a winner of this race in the near future.

Albert Bartlett Tips

Winning form in a Graded Hurdle appears to be a prerequisite for success in the Albert Bartlett and most of the market leaders tick that box, although not Champagne West, Blakemount, Apache Jack and Mosspark.

Briar Hill appears very short in my opinion given that he has beaten just three opponents in his last two races and has yet to try three miles. Connections seem adamant staying won’t be a problem but I’d rather have a confirmed stayer than one who probably will, especially given his odds.

One of the most impressive winners all season for me was KINGS PALACE when he won the Grade Two event at the Cheltenham December meeting. David Pipe’s gelding gave an excellent display of clean, fast hurdling combined with a relentless gallop that simply burnt off all his rivals that day.

The one concern is that all his wins over hurdles have come on good ground and if the underfoot conditions were nearer soft than good he may not be quite as effective.

The weather forecast suggests that conditions will be nearly perfect for KINGS PALACE and he could make up into a star of the future.
