Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Analysis

This is a race that both Jonjo ONeill and JP McManus both love to win with seven wins between them. It would be no surprise to see the McManus colours winning this race again as we have to go back to 2006 for his last victory with Kadoun.

In addition to the above stats all of the last ten winners of this race had either won or finished second over three miles or further and that usually cuts the likely candidates in this race down by quite a number.

Pertemps Hurdle Preview

David Pipe has obviously worked out what is required for this race with two wins and two placed in the last few years but perhaps Willie Mullins' runners should also be monitored? The Champion Irish trainer has only had two runners in this race in the last ten years and both finished third.

Conversely Nicky Henderson has had a poor run of form in this race and is currently 0/23 with his runners.

Always a fiendishly difficult puzzle to solve with punters needing to weigh up the merits of lightly raced dark horses against much raced grizzled handicappers.

This race has a record of horses that have been running over fences returning to hurdles to run well with Freetown, Creon, Kadoun, Buena Vista and Cape Tribulation all having tried fences before coming back over hurdles to win this.

The Leopardstown qualifier for this race run at Christmas has arguably been the best trial for the final with a number of Irish runners going close in recent years.

Pertemps Hurdle Tips

Philip Hobbs appears to have made his mind up to target the Pertemps races this year and has won three of the qualifiers with Champagne West, Fingal Bay and UNCLE JIMMY.

The last named was an emphatic winner of the Warwick qualifier and the handicapper seems to have been very fair in only putting him up seven pounds for what was an eye-catching win. Hobbs believes UNCLE JIMMY. is at his best on a sounder surface than the one he won on at Haydock and the seven-year-old son of Alderbrook looks very attractively priced at a current quote of around 20/1.

As usual there are a number of horses who could have been prepared especially for this race but UNCLE JIMMY stands out as an excellent value each-way bet.

Back UNCLE JIMMY each-way at 16/1 with Bet 365 non-runner, no bet (price available at time of writing)
